Presses

Presses or forming presses are supplied by our companies in England, France, Brazil and Italy or some individual BalTec representatives.

Press forming with a non-moving tool can be used to displace material. The protruding section of the rivet is compressed by the forming tool via vertical force. This type of material forming causes swelling deep into the rivet shank, against the wall of the hole. The result is a solid joint, while maintaining the material structure.

Pressing with non-moving tool requires approx. 10 times the force of radial riveting. Process variables are limited to: Tool design, press force and forming speed. Control over material flow and head shape is limited.

Caption: The riveting peen N receives an impacting up and down motion either manually or using a machine. In the most common methods, the rivet head is shaped with a riveting peen as per our sketch. The deforming rivet head material "flows" in the direction of arrow P. The greatest disadvantage of this type of riveting is the noise created.
