Roller bearing
WHAT
BalTec was asked to develop a process to retain a roller bearing in a newly designed water pump housing made of die-cast aluminum. Significant criteria for this new product line were cycle time, and the finished roll form had to be flush to the bearing, plus, of course, not jeopardize functionality.
WHY
Traditional pneumatic machines could not provide enough stroke or speed to meet the customer’s requirements. The roller forming application required a long approach stroke but a slow linear forming speed due to the die-cast aluminum, a difficult material to form.
HOW
For success of the new product line, cycle-time as well as finished roll-form was critical.
With the fully programmable ELECTRIC roll-former, both critical requirements from the customer were met. Since the 100 mm standard stroke offering provided adequate travel, plus offered linear speeds up to 140 mm/sec, the ELECTRIC roller forming machine was a perfect fit.
