Steering ball joints
WHAT
When a manufacturer has more than 300 parts that require a rolling operation—with diameters ranging from 30 to 50 mm—the challenge is to develop a solution that can reliably roll each assembly while delivering a quality level that matches or exceeds the current production method.
WHY
The machines used in the existing process were approximately 40–50 years old and had begun to fail. They could no longer be repaired, making a modern and reliable solution essential. In addition, the customer wanted to eliminate the need for specialised skills previously required to set up and adjust the old machines.
HOW
The BalTec EA30 articulating roller forming machine proved to be the ideal solution, offering the customer the flexibility to form all part types with minimal changeover effort. All forming parameters are stored directly on the EA30, providing complete traceability for every part and ensuring consistent, improved assembly quality.
By simply selecting the appropriate program on the HMI and changing the lower locating ring, the machine automatically adjusts itself to form the new part.
The EA30 reduces the changeover time from the current 10 minutes to just 1 minute—an essential advantage, especially when working with small batch sizes.
