Durable Household Coasters
WHAT
The customer needed a cold forming solution for household coasters made of flexible plastic strips. The challenge was to joint the strips of the foldable coasters in such a way, that the connection would securely prevent the plastic strips from “unbuttoning” while at the same time holding them together well and allowing them to move freely.
WHY
The rivet head must look perfect and must not have any sharp edges so as not to damage sensitive surfaces on which it lies. Additionally, the fastening process achieves high reliability and short cycle times—crucial for industrial efficiency.
HOW
Notably, these performance benchmarks were met using radial rivets, even in the absence of a process controller.
The BalTec Competence Center in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, worked with BalTec Sales South Germany to develop a radial riveting solution with a punch customized to the component geometry.
